Brecon and Merthyr Railway - Bargoed to Pant.

Closed - Bargoed - Ogilvie Colliery 1977, Engineering Code: BAP,

Route : Bargoed, Darran and Deri, Groes Faen, Fochriw, Dowlai Top, Pant

.
map The trackbed fromPant to Dowlais Top Junction is extant in places, howevr is not walkable in any significant lengths.  Pant Station lies on private land.  Both platforms remain, however no buildings are present.  The junction with the Brecon to Merthyr mainline lies just to the western end of the platforms.
Only some of the section from Fochriw to Dowlais Top Junction is extant, as the area was subject to open-cast mining after closure of the route.  A short section is extant crossing Gelli-gaer Common.
The trackbed is followable as far as about a mile south of Fochriw.  The  section nearest Fochriw is used as a gallops and access is not possible.
The trackbed is walkable in its entirety between Darran and Deri and Ogilvie.  The bridge over Mill Road in Deri Village has been demolished, however other structures remain.  The trackbed forms part of Parc Cwm Darran, sited on reclaimed mining land.  At Ogilvie, a branch line leaves the main route, to the east.  This branch line went to Ogilvie Colliery. Unusual wooden bridges passed over both lines, however these are now in a poor state of repair. They are listed structures.
The trackbed is walkable from just north of Bargoed Station all the way to Darran and Deri. Unfortunately, the path is not accessible from the station itself.  All bridges are still intact, including an unusual footpath overbridge with steam guards.  The eastern or 'down' platform of the Groes Faen Colliery workman's halt remains, along with rails embedded in a concrete crossing at the end of the station site.
