The section from Cwm Clydach to Blaenclydach, serving former
collieries has been partly relandscaped during land reclamation works. |
| The section between Blaenclydach and Coedely Colliery has been turned into the A 4119 Ely Valley Relief road. Very little of the trackbed remains. Small portions are visible near the A 4093 and A 4223 juncions where the road has been deflected to install roundabouts. | |
| Coedely to Ynysmaerdy Colliery. The trackbed is accessible at Ynysmaerdy road bridge, and the track, although a little litter-cluttered is passable. Further south the track runs behind houses and is open. The remains of Ynysmaerdy Colliery are marked by a large retaining wall on the west of the trackbed. Remaining colliery buildings have either been demolished or are on private land. | |
| The trackbed is accessible at Ynysmaerdy Colliery and is clear as far as the Ely Bridge. South of here it has been overbuilt with housing. On this section, a single remaining signal just to the north of the Ely bridge is of note. The Ely bridge is an attractive twin stone arch. Access to the south is either along the river or across the golf course. | |
| Llantrisant sidings are accessible but getting increasingly overgrown. Although the track is not connected to the mainline, access to this could be considered railway trespass. About 5 or 6 curved parallel tracks remain. At one stage, this area was used for fire training by rail crews. Track on the Ely Valley line is complete as far as Mwyndy Junction, where the trackbed follows the Mwyndy branch. | |
| Track is still in place between Mwyndy junction and Maesraul Junction but is disconnected from the main network. |
