The Cylla Branch was opened in 1906 along with the Penallta
Colliery, which it served. It closed in 1991 shortly after the
Penallta Colliery closed. The Brnch's sole purpose was to serve

The trackbed is clear and walkable
from Penalltau Colliiery to Penallta Road. Some sleepers and a gangers
hut remain. The sidings on the Penallta colliery site have been
relandscaped. To the south of Penallta road, the trackbed was not
accessible at the time of visiting due to construction of the Penallta
Link road and associated contractors compound. The trackbed is accessible at Pant Y Celyn bridge, and walkable both ways, although heavily overgrown in places. Much of this southern section still had rails in place in 2005. |
