Welcome
to the Cardiffrail Website.
The Cardiffrail site is a project to
explore
and document disused railways, tunnels and industrial buildings in
south
Wales and the Midlands of England. At the moment the site is divided
into 2
sections: Trackbed guides and Abandoned stations and tunnels. I
hope to be able to add galleries of derelict sites such as abandoned
buildings and military
sites later.
This is the new,
improved
version. After hard work moving the site off the old geocities
server
and reformatting. Coming up there will be a couple of new features,
including
a series of maps showing the growth and decline of the railway network
in
south Wales from 1840 to present and also an article discussing the
links
between the geological history of the area and the industrial history
of the
area. Please check back often as I
regularly add
to the site and fix errors - err yeah right, see below!!. The Geocities and Lycos Cardiffrail sites
have now closed.
I am working on:
Taff Vale Railway -
fixing links
Tunnels - fixing links. More to add
Rail Routes Wales - Trackbed Guides

Remember, my site does not have 'bugs' you just might find 'unexpected features'. Since I run this site myself and have real-world commitments, I can't tend to it the whole time. Don't Panic, this site is not going to go down overnight - even though it might be a while between updates sometimes. I still go exploring, but I don't have the time to update the site as often as I would like. Also, it is unlikely that there will be any more additions to railways in South Wales besides sites I have already visited but have not uploaded yet. I now live in Warwickshire and the site will, in due course continue to document disused railways and buildings in the Midlands of England. The website address and the name 'Cardiffrail' will remain the same. I have no wish to confuse visitors with a re-branding exercise.
!!! IMPORTANT!!!
Some of these locations are on private property and some others are dangerous. This site is an attempt to document part of our heritage, not a guide to get yourself hurt or arrested. I cannot be held responsible for any misuse of information- so if you visit these sites and have problems, that is your responsibility. Locations are depicted 'as seen' when visited. I am not responsible for any subsequent visitor finding that a site has been demolished or secured. Most of the photos taken in South Wales were taken between 2004 and 2007 and I am no longer ''in touch'' with developments down there.Copyright Cardiffrail 2004-2009
